Wafaa-Part II (The Canadian Evacuation)

As you remember Wafaa went to the Canadian Embassy earlier this week to get her passport. And she walked out with nothing, becauese she didn't sign her name correctly.

Her parents, 13 year old sister, cousin and aunt were called by the Embassy yesterday afternoon, and told to be at Beirut at 8 a.m. to board the ship. They were treated well and received two meals today. But they are going to have to sleep in their chairs tonight. The TV has been showing people boarding boats.

Well, it's 9:00 p.m. They are sitting in a room. They never boarded the ship because of "security concerns." The Israelis have been flying planes around the ports all day.

By the way, we just heard a loud boom. It's the same deal. Everyone runs to the balcony to look. And the people who were sitting there, said it was really close. We're on the water. So someone is bombing near the water, where all these evacuation ships are.

THIS EVACUATION PLAN IS A JOKE!!!!

Apparently for the 200 something AUB students who left yesterday. You've probably seen them on CNN and know more than me. But I heard they were on a Norweigan freighter for 11 hours. (They had said it would be around 5) with no food, no water, and standing. Now, this could be an exaggeration because George told me on his cell phone that the boat was empty. So crazy, bad information. Did you see George and Jared on TV???

Oh, and even stupider. Wafaa is supposed to go back to the Embassy to get her passport because she doesn't have travel documents!!!! Rembmer when I yelled at her and said Go back and get it. But they were in traffic and hearing bombs and came back.

The Canadian Embassy doesn't answer phone calls. Everything is too busy.

This is war, Jane, WAR! What do you expect, boxes of chocolate and silk gloves? At least they got on a boat, and they will reach safety. As will you, we all hope.
