I say Thank You! Jesus that you have your passport. It is difficult task as a American or prove you are one without it.
One tip I learned from my father and a friend who are world traveler. Get as soon as possible a copy of your passport and always carry it with you. This is a back up. In case original is lost damage etc. I received a copy from the U.S. Embassy when I registerd that I was in the Country(I was Africa, Ghana).
