E-mail from a student

On Thursday, one of my students sent me this e-mail. This is what he saw from his window.
-------------------------------------------------------------------

Miss,
It looked like palestine...exactly like palestine:(!! Everyone is throwing
rocks at eachother and burning cars. Gunshots fired into the air that
sounded like rainn!!!!! The scattered army doesn't know where it's coming
from. Gunshshots every where. The army finally got the order to fire into
the air and scared many off. The army had 3 casualties but no one died. four
died and 25 injured. Miss it was sooo scary!!

First-hand descriptions like that email are much more powerful than all the political accusations and analysis.

I hope you're safe and all that stuff.

Hi,
I see that you teach at ACS? Are you planning to stay next year? My wife and I are thinking of applying. She has a Masters with 6 years experience and I have a B.Ed with 15 years of experience. What kind of ssalary could we expect at ACS? You said you also worked in Aley, I assume for ESOL? How do the two vary in style and packages? Could you please just give an estimated range in salary (i.e. low 30's, mid-30's etc.) Thanks and I really enjoyed the blog. :)

Hey Jane!

This is Dan Brockman -- the other day I was hanging out with a friend who recently became a teacher and when I was talking to her I was thinking "she reminds me of my old pal Jane Rubio, I wonder what she's up to?" So I Google'd you and holy crap, found this blog. Reading through some of this, all I can say is "wow". It seems like you've had a pretty incredible last couple of years! Anyway, good for you, it's really awesome to see that you are still teaching and doing awesome stuff and being the uber-adventurous Jane Rubio that I remember. Anyway, I couldn't figure out how to e-mail you from this blog so if you get this and you have a moment send me an e-mail at daniel@medeaconnection.com.

Best,

Dan

Hey I was checking if there was school tomorrow on google and found your blog!! It is really interesting, has a strong account of your personal experiences in Lebanon. I am from Lebanon Evangelical School for Boys and Girls, we sometimes go to ACS play football against them (they always beat us :s) hope we'll c u there sometime.
